The World Federation of Sleep Research & Sleep Medicine Societies (WFSRSMS) was founded in 1987. Our mission is to:
- Facilitate international collaborations and cooperation among professional sleep societies around the world (our members)
- Promote sleep health as a world-wide public health priority
- Disseminate globally professional information on sleep medicine and sleep science
- Foster awareness of the importance of sleep research and the impact of sleep disorders
- Sponsor international Congresses on state-of-the-art developments in sleep medicine and sleep research
- Support international training in clinical sleep medicine and sleep research

Publications
The member societies of the World Federation represent more than 10,000 sleep scientists, physicians, and trainees, from over 60 nations and six continents.
World Federation quadrennial Congresses have become a major international forum for the presentation of all aspects of basic, applied and clinical sleep research and didactics in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders.
The World Federation is governed by the Governing Council comprised of the leadership of the member societies. Practical matters are handled by the WFSRSMS Executive Committee elected by the Governing Council at 4-years intervals.
Worldsleep 2011
Preparation is currently underway for the next quadrennial congress of the World Federation, to be held in Kyoto, Japan in October 2011, which promises to be an exciting meeting, bringing together cutting edge sleep research and clinical practice breakthroughs from around the world.
